Mobile Attacks are on the Rise – Keep Your Team Secure with 2 Simple Steps
April 10, 2026 • Uncategorized
Mobile threats are evolving quickly, and they’re no longer just a concern for high-profile targets. Mobile attacks targeting everyday users are now increasing, driven by financially motivated attackers. The takeaway is clear: mobile security is no longer optional, it’s a core piece of protecting your organization and your work.
These Attacks Take Advantage of Basic Security Gaps
Recent campaigns investigated by Google’s Threat Intelligence Group have used fake websites to gain access to mobile devices. In these campaigns, attackers exploit vulnerabilities that require no interaction from the user. Simply navigating to the scammer’s website while running outdated software is enough to infect the device with malware No taps, no downloads, no form submissions. Just landing on the page while running outdated software is enough to infect your device with malware.
The malware installed on the device in this case was financial: it searched through the images stored on a phone to look for cryptowallet keys stored as QR codes, and looked through the Notes app for phrases like “backup codes” or “bank account”. Different types of malware and spyware can gain broad access to the device’s messages, email, apps, location, even calls. In effect, a compromised phone becomes a window into both personal and organizational information.
Start with the basics, they go a long way
The most effective protections are also some of the simplest. Whether your team is operating on Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) or organization-issued phones, we recommend:
- Keeping devices updated so known vulnerabilities are patched.
- Enable built-in protections like Apple’s Lockdown Mode or Android’s Advanced Protection.
From there, organizations can layer in additional protections such as mobile endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools based on their risk level.
